Portraits and Nudes
We are constantly surrounded by photographic portraits and selfies on our computers and phones to the point where we barely see what is in front of as we move onto the next image. In contrast, the very act of painting a portrait compels me to stop, contemplate, make an intimate connection with the sitter, and through line, color and brushstroke, try to reveal the soul within.
The nude is the most personal form of portraiture; as the model poses unclothed, they expose new aspect of their true selves. Their expressions, gestures and nuances of their being emerges from the vibrant form that holds the physical presence of blood and flesh.
