Narrative Paintings
The elemental forces of water, air, fire and earth are recurring themes in my work. Images of the human figure, whether immersed in water, encountering fire or engulfed by turbulent weather, examine these powerful forces and our relationships to them. These elements also convey a mythological and psychological landscape, a ritual or spiritual journey. Adolescents are frequently used as subjects, placed in landscapes or settings that heighten narratives of awakening sexuality, loss of innocence and the straddling of childhood and adulthood. Sometimes animals and spirits appear as magical beings, opening doors to other worlds.
